Kate Middleton's lunch date with the Queen

The pressure was on for the royal fiancée yesterday, as she attended the festive occasion on the arm of Prince William

Meeting the in-laws is always a daunting experience. But just imagine if you are Kate Middleton? The royal fiancée had a pretty important occasion in her diary yesterday – Christmas lunch with the Queen and extended royal family.

The special festive lunch - attended by around 50 friends and family - is hosted by the monarch every year, but this is the first time Kate been invited to officially meet the rest of the royal relatives.

'It's the first time that Kate has ever been invited, which is down to the change in status of their relationship,' one royal insider told the Sun.

Kate and William were spotted arriving with Prince Harry, and it’s thought other guests included Princess Anne, Princes Edward and Andrew, Beatrice and Eugenie and Peter and Zara Phillips. Phew!

But sources say Kate breezed through the meet-the-family event.

‘This was a pretty big deal for Kate,’ the source said.

‘Any event with an in-law's extended family can be pretty daunting, and with the Royals you can up that pressure by at least three notches.

‘But nothing seems to faze her. She's confident in their company and really enjoyed herself.’

It’s thought Kate will spend this Christmas with her family, while William spends the day on call as a search and rescue pilot near their home in Wales.
