Kate Middleton failed to top People magazine’s list that saw the actress nab first place instead

Kate Middleton is usually crowned the most stylish woman in the world, but today she’ll have to make way for a new fashion icon as Gwyneth Paltrow has stolen first place.

The Duchess of Cambridge was placed second in People magazine’s top ten Best Dressed Women of 2012 awards – a position she’s not too familiar with.

It was the Oscar-winning actress’ experimental fashion that awarded her the accolade with her looks dubbed ‘unexpected’ and ‘unparalleled’ by the magazine.

Not even the royal's Alexander McQueen or Jenny Packham creations could secure her the coveted top spot. Or that infamous big bouncy blow dry!

Kate is in good company though as she shares the top ten space with the likes of Hollywood hard hitters Jessica Alba, Reese Witherspoon and Emma Stone.

Rihanna was the only singer to make the list and Miranda Kerr the only model.
