Kate Middleton scored style hit after style hit during her Diamond Jubilee tour, wheeling out an array of amazing dresses, from Jenny Packham to Alexander McQueen.

But now it's been revealed the Duchess of Cambridge is at the centre of a row over her clothing, after accidentally wearing a dress from the Cook Islands to an official Solomon Islands dinner.

Kate Middleton surprised fashion fans with a last minute change of clothing after arriving on the Solomon Islands, eschewing her planned designer dress for a colourful strapless number given to her as a gift by island officials.

It was first thought it came from a local store, with the Duchess said to 'love the dress'. 'She tried it on, she loved it and she is wearing it,' a royal official said at the time of Kate's clothing gift.

But now it's been revealed the colourful pink and blue strapless dress Kate wore actually came from the Cook Islands, nearly 3,000 miles away.

Before the Duke and Duchess's arrival, it had been agreed that Prince William would be presented with a traditional shirt made by Solomon Island tailors for the evening, while Kate Middleton would wear a summer dress that she had brought with her.

But after Prince William's shirts were laid out in the royal couple's room, an over-zealous member of the official Welcoming Committee popped back to add some extra gifts, resulting in the confusion.

According to officials, Kethie Sunders added a number of extra presents to Prince William and Kate Middleton's room - including a blue shirt and brightly coloured dress from the Cook Islands.

And when William and Kate arrived, they assumed the clothing had been left out for them to wear that evening, so happily donned the colourful getups.

A press release issued by Government House said: 'We are incredibly frustrated that this situation has come about and see Kethie as entirely to blame. It was completely inappropriate for her to go to Their Royal Highnesses’ room, which she filled with various things, causing confusion.'

Whoops!
