The new Prince of Cambridge is expected to leave St Mary's Hospital with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this lunchtime

Kate Middleton is expected to return home to Kensington Palace with her newborn, The Prince of Cambridge, accompanied by the Duke of Cambridge this afternoon.

According to The Sun's royal photographer, Arthur Edwards, Kate's hairdresser has just arrived at the Lindo Wing which suggests she will make her first public appearance as a new mum, with her newborn, in the next few hours.

After the healthy, natural birth of her 8lb 6oz son yesterday afternoon, the Duchess of Cambridge will pose for the world's waiting press outside St Mary's Hospital with her husband Prince William by her side.

The Duke of Cambridge, who stayed with his wife and newborn baby at the hospital's Lindo Wing last night, said the couple 'could not be happier' with their new arrival, who made his long-awaited appearance at 4.24pm yesterday afternoon.

When they leave the hospital, the couple will return to their London home of Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace where they'll enjoy their newborn as a family until Prince William's paterntity leave ends in two weeks.
