The Duke and Duchess enjoyed a night out at exclusive London nightspot Loulou's with Kate's sister Pippa last night

Kate Middleton and Prince William enjoyed a rare evening out in London last night, visiting an exclusive private members club with a group of friends.

KATE MIDDLETON VISITS NEWCASTLE ALONE

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent the day separately, with Kate Middleton hard at work on an official engagement in Newcastle, and Prince William attending the funeral of former-nanny Olga Powell.

But after their daily duties came to an end, it seems William and Kate decided to treat themselves to a night out, with a trip to exclusive London venue Loulou's.

The Duke and Duchess were joined by Kate Middleton's sister Pippa for their evening out, as well as Prince William's cousin Princess Eugenie.

Insiders at the club said no one knew the royal couple were planning an appearance - until they swept through a private door at 10pm.

'Nobody knew they were coming and then at 10pm they were swept in through a back door,' one insider told the MailOnline.

'They stayed for about couple of hours.'

While Prince William looked super-smart in a navy jacket and trousers, Kate chose a chic black dress - with a slightly higher hemline than we're used to seeing on the Duchess - and knee-length black coat.

The couple were spotted leaving the venue at midnight, accompanied by their royal protection officers.

Yesterday, Kate Middleton spent the day in Newcastle, where she wowed the crowds - and made on little boy's day by giving him a hug!

When asked how it felt to have a cuddle with the Duchess of Cambridge, the youngster said: It was good. I never actually thought it would happen. I can’t believe she hugged me back.

'She was everything I thought she would be. She was really nice.'
