Kanye West has made some bold statements before now, between declaring himself equal to Steve Jobs, Beethoven and, um, God. But his supposed quotes regarding Nelson Mandela seemed farfetched even for him.
As the world mourned the loss of South Africa’s first black President last week, the Yeezus rapper was ‘quoted’ by a The Daily Currant as saying he was ‘the next Nelson Mandela’.
The successful hoax story also claimed that Kim Kardashian’s hubby-to-be had said: ‘I liberate minds with my music. That’s more important than liberating a few people from apartheid or whatever.’
We can’t imagine Kanye is going to be too happy about the latest rumours, as the fake quotes were picked up by several South African websites after being published.
Nelson Mandela passed away peacefully last Thursday (5 December), after an ongoing battle with a lung infection left him in a critical condition.
Kim Kardashian was among the stars to publicly pay tribute to the heroic figure, writing: ‘R.I.P Nelson Mandela…may your principles of love be the guiding light for future generations.’
