Jude Law will play Dr Watson opposite Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock Holmes in new Guy Ritchie film
Jude Law will play Sherlock Holmes’s sidekick Dr Watson in the up-coming film directed by Guy Ritchie, it has been announced. Robert Downey Jr has already been cast in the role of the 19th Century super sleuth.
Guy Ritchie, married to pop icon Madonna, revealed the actor’s new role at a press conference held in London.
He also admitted that the film would be an action movie, but would not confirm if the characters would be wearing traditional tweed costumes.
‘I'd like to bring something new to this project - I have a few tricks up my sleeve. It won't be a traditional Guy Ritchie thing, it will be a new Guy Ritchie thing,’ said the director.
Guy’s latest film, RocknRolla, took the number one spot at the UK box office when it was released last month.
Robert Downey Jr said he was attracted to role of Sherlock Holmes after re-reading the books. ‘Holmes is such a weirdo!’ he said.
