James Arthur beat Jahmene Douglas to become this year's X Factor winner
James Arthur is the winner of the X Factor 2012. Hurrah.
The super-talented singer from Middlesborough was crowned X Factor champion last night with 54 per cent of the public vote. On hearing the news from host Dermot O'Leary, he said: 'Thank you, thank you so much. Have I really won? Wow. I don't know what to say.'
He has now released his winner's single which is a cover of Shontelle's Impossible. All profits from the song's sales will go to Together For Short Lives charity.
During the X Factor final, that took place over two nights in Manchester, we were treated to performances by Kylie Minogue, Emeli Sande, Rita Ora, One Direction and Rihanna.
There was also a healthy dose of off-stage drama when Christopher Maloney, who went out of the competition on Saturday night, was allegedly angered when he realised he had only been given one line in the group medley that would be performed on Sunday night, and 'stormed off' to his nearby hotel.

An X Factor spokesman said: 'Chris decided he no longer wanted to be part of The X Factor Final and has gone back to Liverpool.'
Sources backstage also said that the scouser had turned up drunk to rehearsals and was abusive to former X Factor contestant Carolynne Poole as well as producers.
He then apparently returned to the Manchester arena last night but wasn't allowed to perform with the other X Factor contestants because he had missed the dress rehearsals.
Maloney, or Baloney as he has been called by same of his critics, now faces losing his spot on the X Factor tour.
