Today sees the release of the utterly brilliant Carol. The film stars Rooney Mara alongside Cate Blanchett as the pair play a lesbian couple in 1950s Manhattan.

Directed by Todd Haynes the film follows the story of the complicated relationship between Carol (Blanchett) and Therese (Rooney) as they struggle to navigate their feelings for one another.

Marie Claire spoke to Rooney about the film, what it was like to work alongside Cate and how the two of them created their sizzling on screen chemistry.
