Marie Claire’s cover star, Blake Lively, has opened up in a revealing interview for the April edition, admitting that she’s never been a wild child, in fact she didn’t have a boyfriend until she hit 17.

Gossip Girl’s most stylish cast member graces the current issue, on sale today, featured in a vivid red Oscar de la Renta strapless frock and making a patriotic stand, clutching the U.S stars and stripes flag.

The 21-year-old confessed to marie claire that, contrary to so many young stars in the limelight, she has ‘never felt the desire to go out and go crazy’. The reason? ‘I was raised in a really terrific, close family and I’ve never needed to escape anything or to really let myself go by dancing on tables.’

So sheltered was Blake’s, a.k.a Serena’s, childhood that she tells us she has only ever kissed three boys and got her first boyfriend at the age of 17.

Now, however, Lively is making up for it, by dating her rather swoon-worthy co-star and on-screen on/off boyfriend, Penn Badgley.

So how is she coping with such a public relationship? ‘I don’t like to talk about it because we put so much of ourselves out there all the time; there are very few things that we get to keep private.’

A wise head on young shoulders, there’s no doubting, Lively clearly wants to avoid the very public demise of fellow starlets: ‘You see these people who fall off the edge and it seems they have given the media all of themselves.’

She added: ‘It is hard that people don’t just let you do your job for them and entertain, and then carry on your own life.’
