While You Were Sleeping... 11 Moments From The Golden Globes Everyone’s Talking About
Didn't stay up for the Golden Globes last night? Here's what you missed
Didn't stay up for the Golden Globes last night? Here's what you missed
1) Leo winning!
Good things come to those who wait, Mr D. After all the ‘this is getting awkward now’ jokes, jibes and ‘sad Leo’ internet memes, the star finally made it up to the podium to take Best Actor for his role in The Revenant. It was a very classy acceptance speech – we guess he’s had a little bit of time to plan – ending with a tribute to Native Americans. 'I want to share this award with all the first-nations' people represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world,' he said. 'It is time that we recognise your history and protect your indigenous lands from corporate interest and people out there who want to exploit them. It is time we heard your voice and protected your planet for future generations.'
2) This ridiculously hot cakes presenting duo:
3) Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer auditioning to be Golden Globes presenters
'Hi, I’m J-Law' said Lawrence. 'Hi, I’m Aaaay-Schu...?' said Schumer, and so began our favourite segment of the night. Could someone at the HFPA make these two presenting the 2017 Golden Globes actually happen, please?
4) Sly Stallone winning a Golden Globe. Arnie sending over his congrats...

The win that received the warmest reception – and a standing ovation - was Hollywood vet Slyvester Stallone, who scooped a surprise Best Supporting Actor win for Creed. Naturally, his old action pal Arnie sent a congratulatory tweet.
5) Taraji P. Henson telling the teleprompter to pipe down
'Who knew that playing an ex-convict would take me all around the globe?' Taraji joked when she picked up an award for her role as Cookie in Empire. 'It shows that the world loves real.' When her win was announced, the actress handed out actual cookies to the people around her - including Leonardo DiCaprio - and she was having none of it when a producer told her to wind down her speech. 'Please wrap? I’ve waited 20 years for this, you’re gonna wait!'
6) 9-year-old Room actor Jacob Tremblay proving it’s never too young to network
Just a casual catch-up with two of the biggest directors in Hollywood, JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg…
7) This totally on-point jibe about equal pay from host Ricky Gervais
Talking about all-female remakes, including the upcoming Ghostbusters, Ricky Gervais quipped that they were ‘guaranteed box-office results... and they don’t have to spend too much money on the cast!’
8) Lady Gaga Vs Leo
When Gaga went up to accept her very first Golden Globe, she had an awkward brush past Leonardo DiCaprio. His startled/frightened reaction was pretty priceless.
9) Rosie Huntington-Whiteley using the red carpet to announce her engagement
You want to tell everyone you’re getting hitched? Doing it in a million dollar dress in front of the world’s cameras definitely beats a tweet.
10) All the frocks
Special mention to Alicia Vikander, Lily James and Kate Hudson (who looked ridiculously in shape, as per usual). Not everyone loved Cate Blanchett’s fringing (Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci, FYI) but we thought it was pretty great – beats another strapless column dress. Yawn.
11) This incredibly awkward Ben Affleck joke
Ricky Gervais introduced Matt Damon as ‘the only person Ben Affleck hasn’t cheated on’ – possibly the most awks joke of the night given the two are best pals.
