Who wore it best at last night's star-studded Cannes Film Festival amfAR party?

The Cannes Film Festival might be a chance for the A-list to show of their finest frocks, but it's the annual amfAR gala they reserve their very best dresses for.

Last night's glitzy do was no exception. And while Brangelina might not have been in attendance, presumably they were all partied out from the previous evening's shenanigans, every other celebrity worth their salt hit the red – or in this case black – carpet.

From Diane Kruger and Josh Hartnett to Sharon Stone and French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, the great and the stylish popped on their slinkiest gowns and, with cheque book in diamond-studded clutch (this is a charity event, after all), nipped down to the Hotel du Cap where the evening's dinner and auction was to be held.

But enough semantics, what were they actually wearing? Well, blue is the new black, if this lot are anything to go by (carpet, not withstanding). From Lily Cole, resplendent in floor-length turquoise Pucci, to Liz Hurley in a beautiful powder blue strapless number, stopping via Donatella Versace (in Versace, bien sur), Paris Hilton, Marion Cotillard (in Dior) and even Annie Lennox in-between, a host of canny fashionistas realised sunbathed Cannes was the perfect place to bring out the blue.
