Emma Thompson regrets not going on that date with Donald Trump
Erm.

Donald Trump sees himself as a bit of a lothario, and has famously tried his luck with many A-listers. However, it hasn't always gone to plan. According to Hollywood star Salma Hayek, the President of the United States once tried to get her to cheat on her boyfriend. He also attempted to woo the late Princess Diana, which (obviously) failed.
But one celebrity who is regretting their decision to snub Trump is Emma Thompson. Earlier this year, the British actress revealed that Trump had once tried to get her to go on a date and she had hastily put the phone down.
Talking to Vanity Fair, she recalled the moment back in 1997 while she was filming Primary Colors: 'In those old days, no one had called my trailer phone ever in my whole life. So I picked it up and he said, "Hi!" It was Donald Trump.
'I am going, "Who is this?" Because at that time, all I knew him for was his tasteless buildings.
'He said, "I want to offer you accommodations in one of my beautiful establishments and maybe we could have dinner sometime." And I thought, "You’re ringing my trailer to offer me accommodations and dinner?! You’re weird!"

'I just said, "Well that’s very kind of you. I’ll ring you later," and I just put the phone down and told everyone. It was a source of great amusement.'
But while Emma laughs about her reaction now, she has also revealed that she regrets not going on the date with Trump.
'Now, of course, it is a source of amusement and kind of existential despair,' she told the publication. 'Because I could have done something. You just don’t know, do you? I could have changed things. One way or the other.'
Could things have been completely different if Emma had gone along to dinner with Trump? Would the whole butterfly effect have changed the course of the last few years?
While it's interesting to think about, the answer is: probably not. So don't beat yourself up, Emma.
