At Sunday’s Emmys, Hollywood’s boldest and brightest dressed up and hit the red carpet. We saw plenty of glam fashion statements and touching speeches but, of course, there were some surprise political moments as well.
Although you wouldn’t know it by looking at her, Elisabeth Moss’s Emmys outfit had a secret message written on it. And no, it wasn’t on her stunning baby pink Prabal Gurung gown.
The secret message Elisabeth wore was hidden in an unexpected place that’s inspiring us to pen our own words of protest next time we hit the town.
The message Elisabeth was wearing was actually written on the sole of her pink pumps.

While we only got to see that one pump said 'off', we can guess what the other one says. Coupled with a caption that says this was a note to the patriarchy - we’re even more sure of our hunch.
Not only is this a pointed message, but it could also be a reference to Elisabeth’s character on The Handmaid’s Tale, for which she won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. On the show, Elisabeth plays Offred, so the 'off' may be a witty call to her character. And since the show directly challenges the patriarchy as a system of oppression, we have even more reason to believe in this double-edged message.
We can’t deny that we love this whole outfit, but in our opinion, the shoes really make the statement.
