The Downton Abbey star who plays Dowager Countess of Grantham admitted she doesn’t watch the hit programme

Downton Abbey’s Dame Maggie Smith who breathes plenty of life, (and some brilliant one-liners) into the character of Dowager Countess of Grantham has revealed she never watches the hit TV show. In fact, the award-winning actress admitted she hasn’t seen a single episode.

The revelation came during an interview on American TV show 60 Minutes where Dame Maggie Smith was asked if she was proud of Downton Abbey, to which she replied: 'I was just pausing because I've never actually seen it. I don't sit down and watch it. No, I've never watched it.'

But it’s not because she isn’t a fan of the show, instead Maggie Smith blamed her perfectionism, saying: ‘I will look at it when it's all over, maybe, because it's frustrating - I always see things that I would like to do differently, and think "why in the name of God did I do that?"'

Maggie must surely be one of the only people in the UK to not have watched Downton Abbey!
