Downton Abbey's cast took to the red carpet in Los Angeles last night to promote the hotly-anticipated new series, airing this autumn.

Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Sophie McShera, Phyllis Logan and the show's producer Gareth Neame all rocked up to the TCA stage, where they posed for photographers in a series of super-glam outfits, and chatted to reporters about what's in store for season four.

The final, harrowing episode of the last season saw Matthew Crawley involved in a fatal car accident, which left his wife Lady Mary (played by Michelle Dockery) a widow and mum to their newborn son. Naturally, there'll be plenty of tears as the Crawley family grieve for their lost member, with Laura Carmichael telling E! News last night: 'The death of Matthew really affects the whole family.'

Michelle Dockery added that she was unsure where her storyline would continue once Dan Stevens departed the show, revealing: 'My first reaction was "Oh crap, where can the story go now?". But it opens up a new chapter. Initially I was concerned, but now I'm not.'

She added: 'You don't see much interaction between the baby and Mary. She looks at him and sees Matthew.'

Anyone else blubbing yet? Michelle even let us in on another little secret at the photocall, revealing that all the cast are signed up for series five. PHEW.

Producer Gareth Neame added: 'I'm now eying the fifth season and what those stories potentially would be. I think the show has a lot further to go. We want to make it and we want to make the show people around the world love. When we feel it's had its time, hopefully we'll know that before you guys do.'
