'What I’ve seen of Kate at public events, at the Olympics and elsewhere, is someone who’s bright, who’s engaging, who’s a fantastic ambassador for Britain.

And David Cameron wasn't the only high profile figure to rush to Kate's defence.
Labour leader Ed Miliband branded the remarks 'offensive' and said the Duchess is doing a 'brilliant job' in her new role.

Royal commentator Ingrid Seward called Mantel's observations 'gratuitously nasty,' adding: 'Kate is four months pregnant and completely unable to answer back.
'I think the comments are gratuitously nasty and are completely untrue.'
Yesterday Kate Middleton showed off her baby bump for the first time during a charity visit to an Action on Addiction centre in London yesterday.
