Matt beat off stiff competition from Cheryl and Simon’s acts Rebecca Ferguson and One Direction, and finally won over the audience with a rendition of his winner’s single – a cover of Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro’s When We Collide.
And Dannii just couldn’t be happier.
‘Thank you to everyone who voted for Matt - you have made our year :-)’ Marie Claire’s January cover star Tweeted shortly after he was crowned as winner.
And this morning Miss Minogue took to Twitter once again, writing: ‘Thanks again for all the votes for #MattToWin. I think it is just sinking in! What a brilliant night. Spread the love and I'm sure we can #GetMattToNumberOne.’

Dannii even Tweeted a picture of her cheeky protégée appearing on ITV show This Morning, hosted by Holly Willoughby, wearing one of Dannii’s own Project D dresses.
Meanwhile, Matt – who has been swept up in a whirlwind of photocalls and interviews – has revealed the life-changing news hasn’t really sunk in yet.
‘It was so shocking that it made me numb straight away and I have not really got the feeling back yet,’ he said, talking on morning show Daybreak earlier today.
‘I am still in a bit of a spin about the whole thing.
‘I said to someone earlier "it will probably sink in next Christmas when I watch somebody else win and I say oh, I did that last year". It is just crazy.’
Congratulations, Matt!
