Charlie's Angels is back with Kristen Stewart and Elizabeth Banks leading the charge
Good morning, angels.
Good morning, angels.
Charlie’s Angels is officially coming back and we’ve already told our girls in no uncertain terms that we’ll be there on opening night. The spunky female-led thriller won us over back in the early noughties and it’s ready for round two, as a new film starring the next generation of angels is in the works with big names like Kristen Stewart and Elizabeth Banks attached.
Earlier this year, it was rumoured that a new trio of angels had been cast with Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong’o’s names thrown into the mix. According to an official announcement, the grapevine was right about Kristen - however Lupita’s name has been left off the roster. (Not a total surprise, given that Lupita seems to be buried in projects at the moment.)
Joining the Twilight star will be Ella Balinska, best known for Midsomer Murders.
Alongside them will also be Naomi Scott, who has also just been cast as the new Jasmine in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin.
Kristen talked about the series earlier this year, saying, ‘You take a story that’s usually kind of, for lack of a better word, not silly, but just kind of funny, campy. The movie should still be fun but, like, if you ground it and make it about women that really know how to help each other, it’ll be, like, perfect to release now. Like, we’re all together and strong.’
The reboot will take place in a world where Townsend Agency has gone global with multiple teams of Angels, ‘providing security and intelligence services to a wide variety of private clients with offices and highly trained teams worldwide’.

Elizabeth Banks will also be playing a big role as director, producer, screenwriter and actress. This isn’t the first time that she’s been at the helm of female-led project, as she previously produced the entire Pitch Perfect series and stepped into the director’s chair for the second film. Elizabeth will also be stepping into Bill Murray’s shoes as the new generation of angels’ Bosley.
Elizabeth said, ‘Charlie’s Angels, for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ’70s. This film honours the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels. I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world.’
We’re so pumped for this and fingers crossed we get a Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz cameo. Maybe they'll even be spearheading the agency. One can but dream...
The film is set to be released next year on September 27, 2019.
