Following intense speculation the former Two and a Half Men star has revealed to NBC Today that he is HIV Positive...
The actor Charlie Sheen has revealed in a new interview that he is HIV Positive. The 50-year-old said that he found out that he had contracted the illness four years ago.
Charlie told the host of the show, Matt Lauer, that: ‘I am here to admit that I am HIV Positive,’ and later added: ‘It's a hard three letters to absorb.’ He went on to say that his decision to speak out about his health was a result of the stories speculating about his health: ‘I have to put a stop to this onslaught this barrage of attacks and of sub truths, very harmful... stories that are threatening the health of others.’
Charlie said: 'It started on what was series of constant headaches, insane migraines and sweating the bed completely drenched two, three nights in a row. I was eventually hospitalised. I thought it was a brain tumour. I thought it was over. After a battery of tests, spinal taps and all that crap they walked in the room and said ‘boom’ this is whats going on.'
And the star revealed he that he has always been honest with those with whom he has been having sexual contact: ‘I always led with condoms and honesty when it came to my condition.’ He says he is unsure of how he contracted the disease and admitted that he had previously paid people to keep quiet about it. He went on to explain that admitting to having HIV felt like being released from a prison.
Rumours first started circulating that an unnamed Hollywood actor was HIV Positive some two weeks ago, however, Sheen was not named at first. But over the last few days he has been ‘outed’ on social media with several of his past conquests coming forward to comment on the story. His doctor, Robert Huizenga, says he has been working with the star for a long time and the virus is now 'undectable,' in his blood.
Charlie became known for his hedonistic and drug fuelled lifestyle after he was fired from Two and A Half Men in 2011. He has previously spent time in a rehab facility for both drug and alcohol abuse issues, and has been married three times, firstly to Donna Peele, secondly to Denise Richards and lastly to Brooke Mueller - their marriage ended in 2011.
