Native New Yorker Lady Gaga led the celebrity Twitter tributes as stars including Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez shared their outpourings of love to all those on the East Coast.
Celebrities have taken to Twitter to show their solidarity with the New Yorkers and East Coasters currently battling through the floods and devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, which hit early this week and has knocked out New York's metro transit system and stock exchange, as well as causing power outages across the city. New York City native Lady Gaga, currently performing in Puerto Rico, expressed her love and sadness on her Twitter page, writing: 'I know its gonna be ok, but that water flooding downtown while my friends are sitting in the dark is making me sad. i love you new york.
'Miss you mom, dad, natali and all my friends. :( i wanna be there in the rain with you.
'It's such a testament to New York that none of my friends or family members have left. not even my blind grandma in NJ.'
She then added a humorous twist to her posts, writing: 'I'm never watching Grease again #SandySucks' before posting the more sombre: 'I'm gonna say my prayers and go to sleep. Thinking of you all.'

Yesterday, Gaga wrote down her thoughts on her Little Monsters website in a post titled 'hurricane blues,' expressing the extreme sadness she feels at seeing images of her beloved childhood home flooded.
'I'm not sure where to put these feelings. I'm so sad,' she wrote.
'I feel like my entire childhood is underwater. The boardwalk in Atlantic City, my old Apts in Brooklyn and LES. all the bars and friends.
'I'm just so sad. I know it will be ok. I'm not sure why I feel this way. Maybe homesickness, or maybe it's easier to be a gypsy if you know your soul grows from somewhere great. And that great place protected me my whole life, now parts are destroyed. Just very sad and pensive today. Thinking of everyone today.'
Band of Brothers star Donnie Wahlberg tweeted dramatic images of his kitchen getting flooded by Superstorm Sandy, and posted videos entitled 'Status updates' of his water-drenched apartment and kitchen cabinets.
'So much for bacon. My entire building is under a foot of water,' the actor posted. 'Awesome neighbors all banding together to help each other! Stay safe!
'Be safe everyone! Stay in! Stay dry! Stay safe!'
Ugly Betty star America Ferrera told followers of her experience during Sandy, writing: 'I've been off the grid all day! Walked uptown 2 charge my phone in restaurant along with many other downtown NYers! Wassup everywhere else?
'Thanks everyone for your thoughts and concern! We're pretty lucky all things considered. Just leaking windows and power outage so far.'
Safely ensconced on the West Coast, X Factor judge Britney Spears tweeted: 'Sending Love to the East Coast! Hope u all are staying safe & dry - keeping u in my prayers,' while famous Bronx girl Jennifer Lopez posted: 'To all my #JLoVERS all over the world and back home... I love you.. Sleep tight... #BeSAFE.'
Reality star Kim Kardashian, who owns a Dash store in NYC, also paid tribute to East Coasters on Tuesday morning, writing: 'Waking up today and talking to my friends in Jersey & New York just so thankful everyone is safe!'
We're thinking of you, New Yorkers and East Coasters. Stay dry and safe.
