Carla Bruni describes her 'immediate' love for Sarkozy
The new first lady of France, Carla Bruni, has spoken of her recent marriage to French president Nicholas Sarkozy, describing it as love at first sight and believing the couple will be together forever.
The former supermodel and singer has given her first interview since her relationship with Sarkozy began last year. Speaking to French news magazine, L'Express, Bruni was candid about the whirlwind love affair saying: 'They tell me that it all was too rapid. That's not true between Nicolas and me. It didn't happen rapidly. It was immediate.'
The 39-year-old went on to explain that for them, the courtship felt slow – despite the pair marrying after nine weeks together. In true romantic French style, Bruni admitted: 'I know you don't get married in an instant and that even more, we were in the spotlight. But lovers, you know, have their own sense of time.'
The immediacy was apparent for Bruni from the start she explained: 'I wished to marry him right away,' she said. I felt that with him nothing bad could happen, Nicolas isn't addicted to power and that's what makes him courageous.'
The former model said she hoped to continue work on her third album but admitted that touring may be difficult as her duties as First Lady came first.
Bruni, who has famously dated Mick Jagger and Donald Trump in the past, said she hoped to silence her French critics because she is a 'normal' person and 'will do my best' for the people of France.
