The French First Lady gave birth at a private hospital in Paris yesterday
Carla Bruni and French President Nicolas Sarkozy celebrated the arrival of a bouncing baby girl yesterday, after the First Lady gave birth at a private clinic in Paris.
It’s thought the mum-to-be checked into the exclusive Muette Clinic in the French capital yesterday morning.
The President was spied visiting during the day – but stayed for just half an hour, before jetting to a meeting in Germany - so it's thought he missed the birth of the baby, at around 8pm.
But delighted new father rejoined his new family later that evening.
Yesterday officials confirmed the baby’s birth, telling reporters: ‘It’s true – the First Lady had a baby girl earlier today.’

The French couple have yet to reveal the name of their tiny bundle of joy, although speculation on Twitter suggests they could have chosen Dahlia.
Last month Bruni revealed she was looking forward to the end of her pregnancy, telling reporters: ‘Quite frankly, I can't stand it anymore. I spend most of my time either sitting down or lying down. I can't drink or smoke any more. I'm in a hurry to get it over with. It doesn't interest the French.’
Congratulations to the happy family!
