Britney Spears more than held her own as she embarked on a new role as an X Factor USA judge yesterday.

The pop princess was welcomed by the cheers of a 4000 strong crowd in Texas on the first day of the X Factor USA auditions.

Wearing a flattering fuchsia body-con dress, Britney showed off her toned figure and long pins as she made her debut as an X Factor USA judge, alongside Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell and LA Reid.

The Womaniser singer sat in the seat once filled by axed judge Paula Abdul while Demi Lovato took the place of Nicole Scherzinger.

And it seems the singer won't be letting head judge Simon Cowell upstage her as a diva. Upon her arrival at the studios Spears posted on her Twitter: 'Just arrived for @TheXFactorUSA auditions - hope everyone is ready! Still waiting on @SimonCowell of course....’

To which Simon jokily replied: 'I have been waiting for @britneyspears for two hours. Still can't find her. @TheXFactorUSA' then later adding: 'Into the lion's den!'

Despite needing to take a break halfway through the auditions, Spears appeared to be having a great time in her new role, tweeting: 'Texas has a lot of talent - seriously!' adding 'Loving @TheXFactorUSA auditions so far.'

Meanwhile fellow new judge Lovato, 19, showed off her feisty side by winding Simon Cowell up about his age, calling him 'grandpa' before tweeting: 'OMG!!! This is so much fun! #XfactorUSA.'
