The Tudors star will take the role of Clark Kent in the next of the superhero movies
We’ve had news on Batman and Spider-Man in recent weeks, and now it's the turn of Superman. Brit boy Henry Cavill has been unveiled as the brand new Man of Steel, and will take over from Brandon Routh as the next Clark Kent.
It’s thought the brooding Tudors star was up for the part back in 2006, but was pipped to the post at the last minute.
But this time he made sure he got his hands on the coveted action role.
Now movie execs have praised the smouldering star as the ‘perfect choice’ and say they just can’t wait to have him on board.
‘In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognised and revered character of all time, and I am honoured to be part of his return to the big screen,’ director Zack Snyder said of the film.
‘I also join Warner Bros and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry.

‘He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.’
And a little known fact about our latest superhero? He very nearly ended up fighting a different kind of evil, in vampire flick, Twilight. The star was reportedly Stephanie Meyer’s first choice for the role of Edward, but was ruled out of the running when pre-production finally began, as he was then too old.
Do you think Henry is perfect for the role? Or did you have someone else in mind to play Superman? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.
