The BRIT Awards 2013 are almost upon us, but who will nab the Best British and International Female gongs? With an impressive array of nominees from Rita Ora to Jessie Ware and Rihanna to Taylor Swift, it’s any artist’s game. Which is why we spoke to former Best Female BRIT Award winner Kate Nash to hear her predictions.
While being very diplomatic, Kate did tell us who her two top favourites were, saying: ‘I’d be happy to see Taylor Swift win, I’ve recently got into her and I’ve always been a Cat Power fan.’
Although when it comes to the Best Female category, there’s only one real candidate in Kate’s eyes.
'Paloma Faith is awesome, she is a true creative,’ she told us. ‘I remember seeing her in 2006 and even before her records came out she always puts on one of the best live shows I've ever seen.’

The praise continued from music to style with Kate adding: ‘I really respect Paloma as an artist and a woman. And she looks amazing all the time. Sometimes when I can't be bothered to get dressed I think of Paloma and it inspires me to make an effort.’
We think Paloma inspires us all to be more playful!
With gigs planned in the US later this year for Kate, talk then turned to the success British acts are currently experiencing in America. The singer has her own theory for this, ‘British pop stars aren't trained to talk to the press so we don't hold back,’ Kate said. ‘American audiences are drawn to that when there are so many polished pop princesses over there.’
Let's hope Kate can cash in on that too!
Kate Nash’s single 3AM is out 18 February, while her album Girl Talk is out 4 March. She also stars in British films, Powder Room and Greetings From Tim Buckley, and is an ambassador for Plan International’s I am a girl campaign
