The newly single film boss played matchmaker on the set of the ballet-themed flick, by introducing Natalie to her hubby-to-be Benjamin Millepied, who plays a leading male dancer.
‘I don't know where their chemistry starts or ends,’ he told E! Entertainment at the Hollywood event.
‘I'm just happy it worked out. And it's nice, [because] I introduced them. I didn't introduce them for that! But I introduced them to work together.’
And Darren just couldn’t help gushing about the blooming star as he walked the red carpet, revealing to reporters he thinks Natalie will make a brilliant mother.

'She'll be an amazing mom,' he said,‘Because she's very organized. She's very considerate. She's feeling. She'll be amazing.’
The mum-to-be in question – who announced both her pregnancy and engagement over Christmas – walked the red carpet at the SAG Awards in a flowing white Azzaro gown, accessorised with a cool $2 million worth of Tiffany jewels, and scooped the Best Actress gong at the ceremony.
At the Golden Globes last month, Natalie thanked director Darren for introducing her to her fiancé, on the Black Swan set.
‘I met you 10 years ago in a HoJo in Times Square. You were classy then, you’re keeping it classy now,’ she teased. ‘I keep telling Darren, "you made me very skinny and now you’re indirectly responsible for making me fat, since you introduced me to my love." But I am incredibly grateful for that most special of gifts.'
