Rich, talented and also fluent in something other than English - these celebrities speaking other languages sure do make the rest of us look pretty average, and after watching Leonardo DiCaprio talk Italian to the Pope recently, we're feeling like we might sign up to a Rosetta Stone course, like, ASAP. Here are 11 other clever celebrities speaking other languages.
Chris Pratt
You may not know that Chris Pratt can speak German pretty well, having learnt the language for three years at school. While on the World Press Tour promoting new film Passenger, he showed off his skills in front of co-star Jennifer Lawrence. Watch the video below to see just how good he is (and also J-Law's hilarious reaction).
Bradley Cooper
Bradley became fluent in French after he spent six months as an exchange student in Aix-en-Provence in Southern France. The actor developed a general interest in the French language as a kid because it 'sounded cool' (he's not wrong), before deciding to study both English and French at George Town college. Bradley occasionally shows off his language prowess in promotional interviews, like the one below.
Gwyneth Paltrow
It seems there are just no end to Gwynnie's talents, and in this interview below, the actress explains (in Spanish, no doubt) that she came to learn and love Spanish culture after a term abroad at college where she stayed with a family for a few weeks in Spain. We're in love with her near-perfect accent too...
Ben Affleck
The Oscar-winning actor and director spent a year living in Mexico as a teenager with his family, and became fluent after he practised his Spanish skills with his family. The actor has kept the skill up by taking on Spanish film roles such as 2010's Argo and we reckon chatting in Spanish really suits him.
Shakira
Bet you didn't know that Colombian-born Shakira can speak an incredible 5 languages: English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian. And apparently Shakira got plenty of help when she first started learning English - from Cuban-American singing legend Gloria Estefan, no less. The legendary singer revealed that she helped Shakira translate her first album (mega-hit Laundry Service) from Spanish to English. Check this compilation of the talented singer speaking in all 5 lingos...

Natalie Portman
The Israeli-born actress directed and acted in A Tale Of Love And Darkness, about Israeli author Amos Oz, where she used her Hebrew skills on-screen. However, although she grew up speaking the language, she told the LA Times that she worked with a Hebrew speaker on-set to achieve complete perfection. Watch her fluent Hebrew interview below.
Johnny Depp
Another factor in Depp's awesomeness is that he speaks fluent French. The actor learnt the language of love when he lived with his former partner - French actress and model - Vanessa Paradis in France, after meeting her in Paris in 1998 as he was filming The Ninth Gate. Before their split in 2012, the couple divided their time between Paris and New York, which is how Depp became so damn good. And if you don't believe us, check out his skills in this Q&A interview sesh below...
Sandra Bullock
This video of Sandra accepting a German award has defs impressed us. The actress picked up the lingo whilst touring Germany with her opera-singing German mother, and until the age of 18, she even had dual German-American citizenship. Bullock's maternal grandfather was a rocket scientist who lived in Nuremberg, and her father was stationed in the same location with the German army when he met her mother - hence why Bullock grew up with Deutsch as her second language.
Will Smith
Er, who knew Will Smith was fluent in Español? The actor gave his first interview in spanish back in 2000 and has made good use of his skill in both music and film; he spoke it ih in his 2009 film Seven Pounds, and even rapped in the language in a track he released in 2015 called Fiesta. Watch him hold his own and flit between both Spanish and English in this interview below.
Colin Firth
As if we didn't need another reason to find Mr Darcy practically perfect, we now know he's fluent in one of the most easy-on-the-ear Romantic languages: Italian. The actor learned the beautiful language for his wife, Livia Giuggioli, who he met in Rome, and the couple now have two children together.
Mila Kunis
This video of Ukranian-born Mila defending Justin against a Russian reporter's silly question is marvellously hilarious - mainly for the complete look of confusion on JT's face throughout the whole debacle. Mila spent the first seven years of her life in Ukraine where she learnt Russian, and later moved the States with her family. Watch the reporter take-down (and Mila's brilliant Russian skills) below.
