We couldn't have been happier when we learned that our favourite hapless heroine was making a comeback with the release of a third Bridget Jones movie. Bridget Jones's Baby sees the return of Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and a welcome addition in the form of Patrick Dempsey, as a new love interest for Bridge.
And now we've learned that our appetite for Bridget-shaped mishaps won't go unabated after the movie's release, as Helen Fielding has just announced that she's working on a fourth Bridget Jones book.
Based on Fielding's original columns for The Independent, Bridget Jones's Baby: The Diaries will be released on 11 October, a month after the release of Bridget Jones's Baby.
It will follow Bridget's 'somewhat bumpy pregnancy', suggesting that it will serve as a prequel of sorts to 2013 novel Mad About The Boy. Though no word yet as to whether it features Mark Darcy's character who's been killed off by the time the narrative resumes in the previous book.
The press release promises that the new pregnancy diaries will be 'full of cheesy potatoes, outlandish advice from Drunken Singletons and Smug Mothers, chaos at scans and childbirth classes, high jinks and romance, joy and despair.' Sounds like the same old Bridget, then.
Talking about the new release, Fielding says: 'At heart Bridget Jones is about the gap between how we all feel we’re expected to be and how we actually are and – as Bridget discovers with her somewhat bumpy pregnancy - how we expect life to turn out and how it actually does.'
