All eyes were on Sam Bailey this weekend as she was crowned winner of the 2013 X Factor.
Looking every inch the glamorous star, the former Prison Officer and mum-of-two saw off stiff competition from Luke Friend and Nicholas McDonald, while the X Factor’s hair and beauty teams put the finishes touches to another successful series backstage.
Giving us the guided tour of his Pro Shine hair room, X Factor’s resident hairdresser Jamie Stevens allowed us to rummage through his TRESemmé essentials while he prepped the stars at Wembley Arena.
‘The hero product is TRESemmé’s new Shine range, with my specific hero products being the Texturising Spray and the Shine Spray,’ Jamie revealed.
‘Sam Bailey, Tamera [Foster] and Hannah [Barrett] have been all about the shine, whereas Luke [Friend] is more about the beachy, matte and undone look.’
Jamie may have met his match with Luke’s matted dreadlocks at the beginning of the series, but the hair pro insists they’ve managed to tame those tricky tresses. ‘In the beginning I wanted to get rid of it, but if we did cut Luke’s hair off, I really wonder if he’d be here now.

‘I’m really glad that we didn’t, it’s such a part of him and his personality. And we’ve still been able to play around and experiment – we put it up, swept it over, did a braid, it just shows how versatile and experimental you can be.’
But when it comes to the ITV show’s ultimate hair hero, Jamie says: ‘This year Tamera has been my hair hero because of the big transformation – I called it the T-bob!
‘Little Mix were really fun, too. It’s really interesting to see what they’re like now, compared to what they were like on the show. I love what they’re doing now – it’s a shame we couldn’t do it back then but because they were young, we had to appeal to a mass audience.’
And as for the judges, there’s only one lady on Jamie’s mind: ‘I’d love to get my hands on Cheryl. I think it would be good to see her back, I’d just love to cut her hair. I’d give her a T-bob, she’d look absolutely incredible!’
TRESemmé are the digital hair partners for The X Factor, with the Pro Shine range available exclusively at Tesco stores.
