The Beauty Desk Talk Rap, Roasts and Scarface With The Model Of The Moment...
You probably already know a fair bit about Neelam Gill. If you read our October issue, you’ll know that she was the first model of Indian heritage to star in a Burberry campaign and subsequently has the fashion world at her feet. If you’ve picked up any of the tabloids lately, you’ll know she’s (possibly) dating Zayn Malik. If you’ve googled her, no doubt her chocolate eyes, preternaturally long limbs and silky mop of hair will have wowed you.
Here’s some stuff you may not know about Neelam: she’s fond of rapping (collaborate and we’ll listen, Zayn), she is passionate and emphatic, and she rates a roast. Here’s Neelam in her own words…
“I fly A LOT. My favourite way to zone out on a long haul is to read, and I usually get through a book in a journey. I recently loved the Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. My beauty routine when in transit involves: Avene Moisture Spray, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream and a mask like Dermalogica’s Hydrating Masque. I never wear make-up on a plane.
My favourite film has to be Scarface. I was only about 8 or 9 when I first watched it! I’ve always liked gangster movies.
I’m trying to get better at dealing with stress! If I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed I’ll either call my mum, have a bit of a cry, read a book, or head to the gym. I also like to tidy up - a clean space helps me to feel calm.
The best gift I’ve ever been given was a signed poster of Usher. I was a huge fan when I was a kid so mum got me the poster for my birthday. I still love rap now and can keep up with most my favourites. I like Drake, Krept and Konan and Shy Glizzy.

My skincare routine is pretty simple. I use a Dermalogica cleanser, Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream and a Sisley mud mask every now and then. If I’ve worn a lot of make-up, I’ll use Bioderma to take it off.
My biggest fear has to be of failing. I’m tough on myself - I always think I can do better.
I don’t really get starstruck but I met Rihanna backstage at a Kanye show in New York and was totally in awe - she has such glowing skin and was gorgeous.
The last great party I went to was after Wireless - Travis Scott and ASAP Rocky were there. Usually I’m a bit of a bore, though - I don’t really drink because I don’t like the taste and my favourite way to relax is with a lie in or day at the spa.
I’ve perfected the art of getting ready in a hurry - I apply Burberry’s lip glow, Bobbi Brown foundation and Charlotte Tilbury mascara, then slick back my hair into a ponytail with some Windle & Moodie wax. Done!"
