People are genuinely getting Meghan Markle freckles tattooed on their faces
This is a lot.
This is a lot.
We’ve known for a while that every item of clothing that Meghan Markle wears turns to gold, whether it’s one of those in-demand Meghan Markle coats or anything from her favourite fashion brands. However, we never anticipated that people would get some permanent ink of the new royal - but here we are. People are genuinely getting Meghan Markle-inspired freckles tattooed onto their face and well, whatever makes you happy we guess. Who knew that Meghan Markle's make-up choices could be just as influential?
Fake freckles have been a big beauty trend for a little while and we’ve seen them all over Instagram (don’t even get us started on the number of fake freckles beauty tutorials there are on YouTube at the moment). That said, cosmetic tattoo artist Gabrielle Rainbow in the US has noticed that after the royal wedding she’s been ‘crazy busy’ with freckle tattoo appointments and that it ‘boosted customers interest in the whole idea of freckles’.
In an interview with New Beauty, she said, ‘I think cosmetic tattooing or permanent makeup is really on the rise, and obviously with any trend, you will have people who will want to take advantage of that.’
We didn’t even realise you could get freckles tattooed onto your face, but it’s a real thing. Apparently, the treatment takes about an hour and the semi-permanent treatment will last up to three years. While they initially look super stark, they eventually fade for a more natural effect - much like the way microblading eyebrows works.
Gabrielle warned people thinking about the treatment to do their research though. She said, ‘I think cosmetic tattooing or permanent makeup is really on the rise, and obviously with any trend, you will have people who will want to take advantage of that...Even if this is ‘semipermanent,’ there are risks, such as technicians who will go too deep or not use the proper inks.’
For those who aren’t willing to take the semi-permanent plunge, makeup artist Courtney Larrabee noted that she’s been asked to create a lot of fake freckles for her customers recently - many even directly citing the new Duchess during their sessions.

She said to New Beauty, ‘I’ve been asked to recreate Markle’s freckles a lot lately.’
If you’re keen on nailing the look at home though, it comes down to having some great eyebrow makeup products in your arsenal.
Courtney revealed, ‘The secret is using a sharp felt tip eyeliner or brow pen. You want something in a brown or taupe that is soft and natural. It is important to remember to only use the tip of the pen to create the freckle, and dab it instantly with the flat of your fingertip to soften the look.’
While we’re intrigued by the idea of semi-permanent freckles, we don’t know if we’re totally jazzed about going under the needle. Yeah, yeah, we’re big wusses - we know.
