Dolce & Gabbana has launched a dazzling new make-up collection to capture the majestic essence of Christmas - and we've been allowed an exclusive look at the inspiration behind the bold new range.
Literally destined to be worn as jewels, the limited-edition Sicilian Jewels collection features lipsticks and polishes inspired from precious gems such as emeralds, rubies, topaz and amethysts, resulting in luxurious and powerful shades of deep red, bright purple, dark green and luminous gold.
Created in collaboration with make-up artist Pat McGrath, the luxurious line-up draws heavily on Dolce &Gabbana's Autumn Winter 13/14 runways - think flashes of golden Byzantine mosaics and decadent gem-laden jewellery.
Featuring D&G's signature creamy and glossy lipsticks and high-pigment nail lacquers with gem-like glows, the collection also hints at medieval and baroque influences, while reflecting the high-end brand's continued focus on quality and decadent luxury.
'I love jewels; they are a symbol of power and passion,' Stefano Gabbana told us. 'I love how they reflect the light: that’s why they have always been part of our collections since the very beginning.'
'We adorn with gems our accessories, our corsetry, everything, like in our latest winter collection, which is the ultimate expression of what jewellery means for us.'

Make-up artist Pat McGrath explained about their choice of shades: 'Matching your lipstick to your nail lacquer is a hot make up trend. We chose four newshades that showcase the theatrical and playful side of looking good: they are so shiny and special that they’ll be a perfect complement to any Christmas or New Year outfit.'
'They can be worn in a young, ironic interpretation or with a more grown-up, sophisticated vibe. Just like a piece of jewellery.'
Even the packaging is gorgeous - each lipstick comes in a gold case adorned with a cushion-set gem set at its head. So elegant.
The Sicilian Jewels Collection by Dolce & Gabbana is now on sale at Harrods in store and online.
