Retro Brit Vs Sleek Starlet: The Hairstyle Tribes Dominating The Party Scene
There are two style camps for this party season: Sleek and modern like Gwyneth, Rihanna and Jessica, or glamorous vintage curls like Kate, Naomi and Cheryl
There are two style camps for this party season: Sleek and modern like Gwyneth, Rihanna and Jessica, or glamorous vintage curls like Kate, Naomi and Cheryl
There are two definite stand out styles to take inspiration from this party season, as the A-list is divided between the past and the present day. With two such strong looks to be inspired by, it might be hard to pick which camp you want to sit in.
It seemed British girls are time travelling as Kate Moss led the way for vintage style, when she stepped out at Mario Testino's 60th birthday last night.
Her new retro look was a big departure from her usual rock and roll glamour, but we loved it. Old Hollywood finger waves and a bold red lipstick were sexed-up with a see through red dress that transformed our favourite model into a total siren.
Does this mean us mere mortals could transform ourselves from day to night with a pair of curlers and a slick of red lipstick? We really hope so.
Kate's pal, Naomi Campbell followed suit with an equally retro style, but added extra flair with oversized roses added to her waved updo.
A more ethereal take on retro style, Naomi demonstrates how to update this 'do with berry-hued make-up that clashes with the red flowers in her hair.

These striking new looks come hot off the heels of Cheryl's latest take on the trend, where Mrs Fernandez-Versini experimented with 20s-style finger waves and dramatic make-up.
A big style shake-up for the singer, we think it worked and has inspired us to experiment with deceptive updos - doesn't Cheryl look like she's cut all of her hair off?
On the other side of the pond, things were brought bang up-to-date with minimalist styling that still made a big impact.
Jessica Chastain led the pack at the Premiere of new film Interseller, teaming a pretty pink dress with a seriously straight parting and severely pulled-back updo.
The same look was present at the AmfAR Gala last night, as Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna both rocked the same sleek look.
Rihanna added her usual bad girl touch with liquid eyeliner and an orange-red lip, which complemented her statement dress and made the look work entirely for her.
Even Gwyneth dropped her all-natural look and went for a dark red lip, teamed with a natural eye.
We love both looks and how versatile each one is: Team vintage waves with a smart suit, or a sleek updo with a pretty dress, a la Jessica, to mix your look up, or follow Kate and Gwyneth and work your chosen era head-to-toe.
Whatever you go for, we think there's plenty here to inspire a stand out party look this season.
