Official BAFTA stylist Charles Worthington shares his insider tricks to recreating celebrity looks
Jennifer Lawrence showcased a sleek style at the BAFTAs, wearing her blonde hair with a slicked back wet effect - and we predict it’ll be mimicked on many a mane. To help you recreate her style, we enlisted the expertise of official BAFTA Stylist Charles Worthington.
The hairdressing guru hosted a special BAFTA hair master class on the MarieclaireUK Twitter channel this morning, sharing stellar styling advice including how we can all achieve Jennifer Lawrence’s look.
Charles dubbed the style, ‘very London’ and joined us in saying how fabulous it was posting: ‘This look was a little edgier than the styles we have seen her wearing on recent red carpets. Jennifer Lawrence is young and has a great face, I thought she carried this off wonderfully.’
But what we really want to know is how we can do it and it appears to be pretty simple, as Charles told us to: ‘Damp the hair slightly, comb back and liberally apply hairspray, then dry to set.’

Another star who ensured all eyes were on her was Alice Eve (who has also been signed up as ambassador for Charles Worthington’s hair care range.) The British actress braved a big hair look, which Charles created especially for her.
He said: ‘I styled Alice's hair at a photo shoot last week and she loved it so much, we recreated it especially for the red carpet. I wanted her to look strong and a little bit sci-fi by way of nod to her forthcoming Star Trek film.’
To achieve this subtle hint of sci-fi on your terms Charles stressed prepping the hair is key. ‘First, I prepped the hair with a volumising treatment. Then, I applied mousse to damp hair, paying particular attention to the root area. Once the hair was dried and sectioned to the side I finished by backcombing the top section of the hair and folding into a quiff, then spritzed with hair spray.’

During our Twitter master class Charles shared what the process of styling celebrities is like, telling our followers: ‘Backstage it's very glamorous and full of energy. It's a great place to be! Stars definitely look to us to advise and guide them towards a look best suited to them.’
He continued to share a few insider tricks revealing Jessica Chastain’s smooth strands are all down to nourished ends. ‘Jessica has beautifully conditioned hair, so try an intensive conditioning treatment before styling.’
And if you’ve very fine hair but dream of having a red carpet look there’s still a solution, it’s ‘Best not to wear hair down,’ Charles told one follower, ‘It can exaggerate fine hair, hair pieces and extensions can make a world of difference to volume.’
If only we had Charles Worthington around every time we headed out..
