Weekend Getaway: The Suffolk Escape
Ever fancied stargazing from a steaming hot tub, overlooking a cool lake where your own luxurious log cabin sits, peacefully, amongst the farmlands and fields of the beautiful English countryside?
Ever fancied stargazing from a steaming hot tub, overlooking a cool lake where your own luxurious log cabin sits, peacefully, amongst the farmlands and fields of the beautiful English countryside?
So it is when you visit the aptly titled Suffolk Escape – a wonderful retreat set in 300acres of farmland, comprising four luxe self-catering log cabins each complete with lakeside decks and a refreshing respect for total privacy.
And it’s adult only too. Bliss.
Best for: a grown up weekend getaway for two – or two couples. Each cabin has two exceptionally generous bedrooms with equally generous en-suites (the bath is so big I could float, outstretched, in it). They sit at either end of the cabin divided by the living/dining area, so even if you do buddy up, privacy is never going to be an issue.
The look: it’s all about subtle luxury here. From the wood burning stove to the granite kitchen-tops, the LED TVs (with mounted soundbar), to the hair straightners in the drawer and the robes and under floor heating in the bathrooms: this is the kind of luxury that doesn’t have to shout or try to hard. It’s just, well, it’s just easy.
I’m hungry: get cooking, then. The open plan kitchen is perfect for music-on, wine-out cooking sessions so hit the local supermarket (10mins drive down the road), swing by the farm’s honesty shop for some freshly laid eggs, stock up and get in the kitchen.
If full-on pampering is more your thing, why not request a private chef to do the hard work for you? Might as well book an in-cabin spa treatment while you’re at it…

While you’re there: get your walking boots on and get outside. There’s nothing more restorative than the English countryside – whatever the weather. You can hire bikes (just ask when you book) and there’s a golf course next door too.
It’s definitely worth heading out – try Sunday lunch at the 15th century Swan Hotel in Lavenham, or fish and chips by the sea in Aldeburgh.
Dress code: daytime is all about country-practical. Night here demands you get comfy, throw on the loungewear and veg out in front of the wood-burner.
