This is why flight attendants want you to stop ordering diet coke
Their reason is fair enough
Their reason is fair enough
Just recently we uncovered the horrifying reason why airplane coffee tastes weird and vowed that we would never drink it again, instead thinking we'd stick to something safer. Perhaps something like a nice cold can of diet coke?
Well as it so happens, diet coke is the one drink flight attendants want us all to stop ordering whilst up in the air.
Why? You may ask. Is it because of the seriously gross effects fizzy drinks are having on our teeth?
Actually no, as it seems while any other fizzy drink is fine to order mid-flight, it's just diet coke flight attendants seems to have grievance with.
Whilst this isn't anything personal against the coca cola brand (proven by the fact that ordering a full fat can of coke is actually a-ok) the reason ordering a can of diet coke is such a frustration to flight attendants is because of the time it takes to pour just one can.
Yes, apparently in the time it takes to pour one can of diet coke three other passengers could have been served.

This is because of the the cabin's low air pressure, which makes it easier to release the C02 in the drink and thus makes it even fizzier than usual.
Whilst one perk of this change in air pressure is any alcohol consumed on flight will probably affect you twice as much as it would when your feet are placed firmly on the ground, it also means soft drinks fizz up a lot more when poured out of a can.
One cabin crew member made the revelation to These Gold Wings recently, saying: 'The worst culprit for this is Diet Coke - I literally have to sit and wait for the bubbles to to fall before I can continue pouring.'
'If all 3 passengers ask for Diet Coke I'll often get them started, take another three drink orders, serve those, and then finish the Diet Cokes.'
Guess we'll just order Prosecco in future then!
