Go to see and be seen at one of Manhattan's coolest clubs
Ahead of a recent girls' holiday to New York I asked the friends and colleagues I consider to be 'in the know' which clubs they recommend I try out while in the city and one place in particular kept being mentioned - 1 OAK.
So, heeding their advice, my friends and I trotted off to 1 OAK in the ultra-cool Meatpacking District on a balmy Friday night in Manhattan.
I had been forewarned that the doormen weren't very welcoming but as we had reserved a table in the VIP-type area, we didn't have any problems getting in.
The said table gave us a prime view over the club and the many, many beautiful people inside it. With mouths gaping, we watched as model after model strutted in and hit the dance floor. Not since fashion week have I seen so many attractive and thin people in one place.
As has been my experience over the years, beautiful people don't always make the most friendly or fun or clubgoers but, once we'd stopped staring, my friends and I forgot that we were surrounded by such a genetically-blessed bunch and got on with the business of the day - dancing.
And dance we did, until the early hours. DJ Questlove provided the music on the night, half of which you would never hear in a London club (the Pet Shop Boys were played at one point, I kid you not) because it wouldn't be deemed cool enough, but it's amazing what wouldn't work in Blighty has a certain charm to it Stateside.

While 1 OAK may not be the most down-to-earth or friendly place to party in Manhattan, it's worth a visit for the people-watching and music alone.
