What? Think home cooked country food - hearty, comforting, and oh-so-delicious. The dining room is smart yet subtle and from the moment you arrive the staff just can't do enough to help.
On the menu? If you're after a classic, you'll find plenty here - the ale battered local fish and chips with pea puree and rolled loin of Sussex beef both took our fancy. But feeling a little adventurous, we opted for the Ashurst pheasant taster.
And if I fancy a treat? The puddings are to die for. We wolfed down russet apple with pomegranate jelly and cranberry syllabub with manuka honey ice cream without hesitation, but also quite fancied the cherry and pecan panatone with set custard and mulled wine caramel.
To drink? The wine list is extensive, and not as expensive as you might think. And you don't have to have a whole bottle either - wine's also available in carafes and by the glass.
Any good for those of us on a budget? Yes, actually. The main restaurant is very reasonably priced with starters from around £6 and main courses starting at £12. Or if you just fancy popping out for a drink, the main bar is gorgeous - plus they serve some delicious snacks in the evening.

A meal with a difference. It's the attention to detail and commitment to local produce which really sets this restaurant apart from the crowd. All ingredients are seasonal, locally sourced, and most probably have been caught and delivered that very day. The menu even tells you how many miles you food has come - you can't get more eco friendly than that.
Need to know? Whites is open from Monday-Saturday 12-2.30 and Sunday 12-3pm.
