Where? 223-225 Brompton Road, SW3 2EJ (020 7225 2107)
Mood? Dubbed a 'food emporium' think holidays in the sunshine (you might have to close your eyes and block out the grey London skies to do so) with a range of Mediterranean cuisine, as well as flavours from Lebanon and Tunisia. The downstairs restaurant allows you to relax on banquettes under opulent chandeliers. If you don't fancy a sit down meal, the café upstairs with its white-washed walls and laid-back atmosphere offers delicious patisseries, fresh coffee and the most mouth-watering juices and smoothies. Or if you're short on time, try the deli with its cold meats and fresh salads.
Who goes? A right royal mix. Predictably the yummy mummies are in residence, but we met for a work meeting and endearingly there were elderly gentlemen enjoying morning coffee as well.
So much choice, what shouldn't I miss? It really depends on your mood. The venue's uniqueness means you can stop by for brunch with a friend (fresh organic eggs make for tasty scrambled eggs), lunch with friends (salmon and swordfish carpaccio marinated in citrus juice, £7.95 was a hit) or evening drinks with the girls (chilled Martinis all round please).
Need to know? Next door is the Brompton Quarter Grocer – a real mecca for foodies with an impressive selection of everyday items (fresh eggs and organic milk) delivered from Rhug Organic Farm in Wales twice a week, to luxury produce (seasonal jams and a legendary granola made on site). There's even a quaint three-wheel bicycle outside ready to deliver orders to your door.
