What would Carrie Bradshaw say?
Have you ever found yourself watching an episode of, say, Sex and The City and thought, dating just isn't like that?
Well, it might be because American and European dating is apparently very different.
According to statistics collated by online doctor, Dr. Ed, dating practices between the cultures differ. Like, apparently an American man is more likely to pick up the bill than a European - but both cultures have the same dating no nos.
First date preferences
77% of women would prefer to have a first date at a coffee shop or cafe
77% of men would rather spend a first date at a restaurant
Splitting the bill

First date topics
Europeans and Americans agree that discussing an ex is the least acceptable first date topic - worse than even religion or politics, apparently.
Sleeping together on the first date
76% of European men (and actually American men) would have sex on the first date, while only 42% of European women and 37% of American women would do the same.
Drinking on a first date
Most people agree that too much alcohol on a first date is a no no, too. In fact, your drink choice could be ruining your dating life so it might be safe to get a little tipsy and end it at that.
So, there you have some fountains of dating wisdom to take with you, whether you're dating an American or a European. Notting Hill, eat your heart out.
