It’s official, the Christmas countdown has begun and we’re all looking forward to comfy, festive nights in and cosy get-togethers with friends at home. If you haven’t planned your decorations yet, here’s our guide to channelling a festive feel.
You can't beat a classic look and reds and greens are the traditional way to go. We’ll be offsetting ours with rustic neutrals, wooden trinkets, hints of gold and plenty of candles. Luckily, we’ve found all we need in one place – hurrah – the new Winter Cottage collection from Sainsbury’s.
Key pieces to note are soft, faux-fur trimmed blankets and woodland animal ornaments – think stags and partridges – plus a spicy winter candle collection that’s perfect for creating a scented golden glow at home.
But that’s not all... you'll find faux foliage wreaths with bright red berries, embroidered cushions and beautiful check throws that’ll add just the right amount of festive cheer.
Use garlands, lanterns and wall hangings in every room... the wonderful thing about Christmas is there’s no need to hold back and decorating nooks and crannies with gorgeous ornaments all adds to the sense of delight.
If you’re lucky enough to have an open fire or wood-burner, your home will already be filled with a rustic woodland scent but spicy notes will give any home a really Christmassy feeling. Choose from a fragrance diffuser for a subtle all-day scent or scented gel candles for a night-time burst.

Keep the scent going with cinnamon stick decorations on the tree, add pine cones, traditional glass swirl decorations in red and gold, then clip on a classic little robin to complete the look.
Now, with the carol singers a hop, skip and a jump away, here’s some more inspo to get you started...
