The US First Lady puts hula-hooping back in the spotlight
There were impressive scenes on the White House lawn yesterday as Michelle Obama provided a demonstration of her hula-hooping skills.
At a fair to encourage children to exercise and eat healthily, the U.S. First Lady, 45, managed an impressive 142 swivels before her hoop hit the ground.
About 100 children from local elementary schools were invited, along with their parents, to the event on the South Lawn of the White House. During the event chefs also demonstrated how to make healthy-but-yummy snacks.
And Michelle delivered a pep talk about healthy eating. She provided an amusing imitation of children whining about eating their vegetables, and declared, ‘I don't want to hear it.'
Mr Obama, 48, complimented his wife's hula skills last year, telling a magazine: ‘Once she gets the rhythm going, she can drop to her knees.' Fans of the retro pastime claim it burns a high number of calories - as many as 100 every 10 minutes - and will boost your mood and even your sex life.
One hooping exercise class in the States, Hoopnotica, is now so popular that, according to U.S. Vogue, its Los Angeles-based sessions have waiting lists ‘worthy of a fashion item'. CLICK HERE FOR MORE HEALTH NEWS
