Actress Gwyneth Paltrow takes to her Goop site to laud her new cleansing regime

We somehow doubt that she overindulged as much as us this Christmas, nevertheless Gwyneth Paltrow is determined to kick off the New Year by getting even fitter and healthier with a new gruelling detox.

The actress took to her Goop website to outline the cleanse, called Clean, with tips on how visitors to the site can join in.

The 21-day cleansing programme, devised by Dr Alejandro Junger, consists of a protein shake for breakfast and dinner, a solid meal for lunch from a list of recommended foods, plus supplements to aid digestion and eliminate toxins throughout the day.

The detox encourages users to eat plenty of vegetable-based meals and even shares recipes for lunch ideas, including wheat-free tortilla chicken wraps, green salads, butternut squash and wild rice, and chicken and broccoli stir fry.

Gwyneth says that by following the cleanse, which excludes inflammatory and processed foods, you’ll feel ‘healthier’, ‘more energetic’ and drop excess weight.

She said on Goop: ‘Next week, when it’s back to the grind with work and the daily school run, I’m starting off with Clean, my go-to cleanse from Dr. Alejandro Junger, with whom Goop has partnered for the month of January.’

She adds: ‘I’ve used Clean in the past with great results, losing a few pounds and kickstarting a healthier and more energetic New Year. This month, I’ll be doing it along with members of the Goop team and we hope you will too. And, it goes without saying, but be sure to check with your doctor before getting started!’

So far, 50,000 people have given the detox a go, priced at £274 for the protein shake powders, supplements, cleanse manual and recipe guide. What’s more, if you sign up through the Goop site you’ll have access to a telephone support line (should you need it), an online community forum of other detoxers and follow-up care.
