These gorgeous gowns will have you dreaming of summer again
The SS17 shows are finally coming to a close as New York, London Fashion Week, Paris and Milan fashion weeks close their runways for another six months. Now that we’ve seen them all, it’s time to talk about one of the trends which we saw again and again: dreamy dresses.
From floaty chiffon numbers to dramatic metallics, the dresses floating down the runway this year were ones we couldn’t help but fall in love with. Leading the charge in the romance stakes was Marchesa, with a palette that perfectly captured the colours of the sky from dawn until dusk – think pinks, lilacs and deep midnight blues with a starry touch of iridescent metallics.
Meanwhile Gucci showcased statement dresses with a seventies twist. Tiers of tulle ruffles, floating florals and gorgeous embroidery were all paired with oversized jewelled glasses to give the look a vintage twist.
Emerging as a major trend were summer florals, which could be seen splashed across the catwalks of Erdem, Rochas and Alberta Ferrati in a romantic nod to the season. Meanwhile metallics dominated the runways either in lavish full golden gowns or through pretty sparkling embellishment. Check out Vionnet and Marchesa’s dreamy dresses for the perfect example.
A summer staple, white also popped up at Giambattista Valli and Simone Rocha, whose billowing sheer dress would make the perfect alternative to the traditional white dress you’d normally wear to a wedding.
Meanwhile shades of purple dominated the catwalks, from pretty pale lilacs to deep romantic violets. Paired with florals, through either pretty patterns or bold embroidery, these purple dresses would look just as good at a winter wedding as they would at a smart summer event earlier in the year.
