Did you spot Meghan Markle’s subtle fashion nod to Princess Diana?
‘She’s with us, jumping up and down somewhere’
‘She’s with us, jumping up and down somewhere’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement to the world yesterday, making their first official appearance together in the Kensington Palace sunken gardens and then sitting down for an interview to talk about their engagement, how Prince Harry proposed and how much the Queen’s corgis liked Meghan.
For the sit-down interview Meghan wore a dark green dress by Parosh but for the photocall earlier that day she changed it up, going for a white belted coat by Canadian brand Line The Label – with some noticing a subtle nod to Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
With the photocall taking place in Princess Diana’s former residence, it seems only fitting that Meghan would wear white, a nod to Diana and the memorial white garden that was created in her memory this year to mark the 20 year anniversary of her death.
The public certainly seemed to like the gesture, with the overwhelming reaction proving that the Meghan Markle effect is just as powerful as the Kate Middleton effect, with the coat’s sudden coverage causing the Canadian brand’s website to crash.
‘It’s days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news,’ Prince Harry said of his mother to BBC host Mishal Husain in last night’s TV interview. ‘But with the ring and everything else that’s going on I’m sure she’s with us, jumping up and down somewhere else.’
‘Obviously not being able to meet his mum it's so important to me to know that she's a part of this with us', Meghan explained. 'And I think in being able to meet his aunts and just different people who were so important to his mum, I'm able to, in some way, know a part of her through them and of course through him.'
