Designer Alber Elbaz, one of fashion s friendliest faces, has stepped down from his role as creative director of Lanvin after 14 years at the helm.

Just a week after Raf Simons resigned from Christian Dior (we can t help but speculate whether Alber is indeed Dior-bound) another of the industry s greatest influencers is seeking a new direction. But, we suspect, wherever he goes, Alber will be taking his clique of celebrity fans with him.

Everyone from Kim Kardashian to Meryl Streep has found something to love from the label over the years, with the brand s glamorous DNA making it an ideal choice for red carpet occasions.

Natalie Portman has been one of Alber s biggest supporters from the start, choosing to wear Lanvin on dozens of big occasions over the last decade, while Beyonce, too, has regularly called on Lanvin s classic cuts when she wants to make a statement, even wearing Lanvin to announce that she was pregnant with Blue Ivy back in 2011.

Founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889, Lanvin is one of Paris most storied fashion houses, famed for its rich satin gowns and stunning draping with charismatic Alber at the helm it has provided a classic fashion love affair for all who wear it.

Hired to awaken the sleeping beauty back in 2002, Alber revived the house for a new generation, even having a high street moment with his 2010 H&M collaboration, plus a make-up collection for Lancome.
