A look at The Crown's Queen Liz 2.0 is finally here
HRH Olivia Colman, everybody.
HRH Olivia Colman, everybody.
We’ve been rooted in Royal Family reality for the past couple of months, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and Prince Louis’ christening taking place just last week. However, we’re ready to slip back into Netflix’s more glamorous world in The Crown - especially as they’ve just released a first picture of Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II.
Netflix posted an image of their new Queen Elizabeth to The Crown's official Twitter account, which showed the actress dressed in a cardigan, brooch and pearls sitting at a dining table. With Elizabeth’s signature curls firmly in place and channeling a serene demeanour, she looked quintessentially British with a porcelain teacup in her hand.
After alleged production delays, it seems like the new season has finally kicked off filming if we’re being treated to a first look at the new Queen Elizabeth II. (Annoyingly, there’s still no official release date though.) We're liking what we see so far though, Olivia seems to have nailed the queen's steely grace above and we can't wait till a trailer drops to see more of her performance.
We’ve yet to see glimpses of the rest of The Crown’s new cast, which sees Helena Bonham Carter taking over from Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret and Matt Smith passing the Prince Phillip baton onto Tobias Menzies for the upcoming series. Olivia Colman herself has taken over from Claire Foy, who’s been keeping busy looking totally unrecognisable as the new Lisbeth Salander in The Girl Caught in the Spider’s Web.
The next series will be the third and features a major timeskip, which explains why the original cast has been totally replaced with brand new actors. It’s going to be tough saying goodbye to Claire, Matt and Vanessa, but we can’t wait to see what the new gang has in store for us.
