Let the countdown begin...
Ask anyone in the office, Mulan is one of the best kick-ass female Disney heroes, ever – she did save the whole of China, after all (although, this is apparently the most popular Disney princess of all time).
Well, Mulan fans everywhere can now rejoice, because Walt Disney has officially set the launch date for the upcoming Mulan live action movie as 2nd November 2018, 20 years after the film was first released back in 1998. Mark it in your calendars, guys.
According to Variety, the film's production has been fast-tracked, and tackling the movie's screenplay (based on the spec script written by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin) is Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the duo best known for the likes of Jurassic World and Avatar.
This live action Disney adaptation comes after the success of Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie as Sleeping Beauty's evil stepmother, and Cinderella, starring Lily James as the housemaid-turned-princess. We're also looking forward to 2017's hotly-anticipated Beauty and the Beast remake, starring Emma Watson, which comes out on the 17th of March next year. So. Much. Disney.
What's more, plans to adapt Disney's The Lion King into a live action movie have also just been announced, as well as a remake of Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach. We've been spoilt rotten when it comes to live action remakes of our favourite childhood films, no?
A director for the film has so far not been confirmed, and no stars are attached to the movie as yet in terms of cast. However, the search for the actress who will perfectly play the role of Mulan is reportedly about to kick off. We can't help but wonder, *who* will end up taking the lead? Cue the rumours...
