This Harry Potter movie originally had a love triangle subplot and we have questions
Imagine if this had got the green light?

Just when we thought we knew everything there was to know about the Harry Potter series, we’re ~still~ uncovering all sorts of hidden Harry Potter details and fascinating deleted scenes that would have completely changed the beloved movies. For instance, according to Stanislav Ianevski, the actor who played Viktor Krum, there was originally a scene in the Deathly Hallows movie creating a love triangle between Krum, Hermione, and Ron.
The film’s director, David Yates, originally insisted on the Quidditch star’s return to add tension to the blossoming romance between the two main characters.
Ianevski was recently on Entertainment Weekly’s BINGE podcast and explained the surprising subplot that didn’t make the final cut.
According to the actor, the director Yates was well aware that the scene was a deviation from the original book plots. But he thought it might be interesting to include for some extra drama. After all, Hermione and Viktor were a pretty cute couple together and their affections are left pretty open-ended (at least from to the movie storylines alone).
Ianevski explained that the scene, which would be eventually deleted from the full movie, would have rekindled a bit of the magic that made us fall for the two of them at the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

He said, ‘We did a new dance scene, I sort of stole [Hermione] from Ron. She remembered our old times, Viktor was acting like a gentleman again, happy to see her, she was happy to see him. Ron was sitting on the side, was jealous, and then Viktor took her to the dance floor.’
Since this is obviously a major change from both the books and how the movie storylines eventually tied up, it’s pretty shocking to hear that it was ever even a possibility.
Ron already had some pretty jealous moments of Hermione’s (platonic) relationship with Harry, so we can only imagine how he would have reacted if a former flame were actually introduced. Since the Weasley family had been through enough by the time the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie started, we’re glad to see at least Ron was given a little break and that this storyline never happened.
